From Welfare to Workforce: The Story Behind the InPowered Program
For too many single mothers, the leap from financial hardship to sustainable employment feels impossible. Traditional welfare systems offer short-term relief but often fail to provide long-term solutions. That’s where the InPowered Program comes in. Founded by Carrie Hill in partnership with Utah Valley University, InPowered bridges the gap between survival and stability—helping women not only re-enter the workforce but thrive in it.
The blueprint for InPowered didn’t come from a boardroom—it came from Carrie’s own kitchen table. Facing divorce, bills, and the daunting task of becoming the sole provider for her family, she realized there was no clear path from poverty to sustainable work. Her determination to fix that system locally became the heartbeat of InPowered.
Each cohort of the InPowered Program welcomes 10 single mothers into a supportive, skill-building environment. Over seven weeks, participants gain:
- Workplace tech skills (Microsoft Office, CRM systems, AI applications)
- Professional communication practice (interview prep, networking, resume building)
- Career coaching (goal-setting, accountability, workplace readiness)
- Direct employer connections through a placement agency launching in 2025
The program is designed with one outcome in mind: turning training into real jobs with benefits, security, and growth potential.
InPowered isn’t just about preparing women for the workforce—it’s about preparing the workforce for women. Employers who partner with the program gain access to a pre-trained, motivated pool of candidates. Instead of spending thousands on recruiting fees, they can sponsor tuition, pre-hire candidates, and support a mission that strengthens families and communities.
Graduates of InPowered aren’t just finding jobs—they’re reclaiming confidence, dignity, and hope. With stable employment, single mothers can provide for their children, invest in their futures, and break free from cycles of dependence. For many, it’s the first time they feel truly supported in both their professional and personal journeys.
